Program Description:

Significant levels of stress and uncertainty continue to weigh heavily on the medical community and the patient population. As day-to-day operations continue to be challenging, focusing on two important risk areas affecting your medical practice and patient safety is essential to reducing errors and enabling healthcare professionals to remain more effective in their practice environments.  2022 Back to Basics was developed to help you evaluate your current practice for potential medical professional liability risks and patient safety issues that may arise in your patient interactions and in follow-up with patients and other healthcare professionals.

  • Apply strategies that increase effectiveness of communication.
  • Implement follow-up systems to track results and appointments.
  • Utilize follow-up documentation to enhance claims defense.

Cyndi Nation, MBA-HCA is a Senior Risk Management Consultant with ProAssurance. She assists policyholders through phone consultation, presentations, resource development and practice assessments. She has over 28 years of practice management and healthcare risk management experience.

Bradley E. Byrne Jr., JD is a Senior Risk Management Consultant with ProAssurance. He advises physicians and other healthcare providers on healthcare risk management and professional liability issues. In private practice, he focused on Title VII civil rights claims, business development, and athlete representation.

Module 2: Fundamentals of Follow-up: Minimizing Diagnostic Error and Improving Patient Safety

Kelly Riedl, PA-C is a Senior Risk Management Consultant with ProAssurance. She gained over 10 years of clinical experience in various specialties and clinical settings as a licensed Physician Assistant prior to starting her career in Healthcare Risk Management.

Alex Ealy, JD is a Senior Risk Management Consultant with ProAssurance. He advises physicians and other healthcare providers on risk management related medical professional liability issues. Previously, as a private legal practitioner, Alex litigated civil cases with a focus on workers’ compensation claims.
